Privacy & data protection
Last updated: August 2026
Vertex ANPR is an automated number plate recognition (ANPR) service built by Vertex Studios and operated on behalf of parking operators and landlords ("our clients") on private land in the UK. This page explains how vehicle data is handled by the service, and how this website itself treats your data.
What the ANPR service captures
- Vehicle registration marks (number plates) of vehicles entering and leaving a monitored site
- A plate photograph and an overview photograph of the vehicle
- Timestamps of entry, exit and any contravention event
- The written reason and rule settings behind each enforcement decision
The service does not use facial recognition and does not attempt to identify drivers or passengers from imagery.
Why it is processed, and under what basis
Vehicle data is processed for the purposes of parking management and enforcement on private land: checking plates against a site's permit list, applying the site's parking rules, and producing evidence of contraventions. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: the landowner's and operator's interest in managing parking on their land, assessed and documented per site.
For each site, the parking operator (and, where applicable, the landowner) is the data controller. Vertex Studios acts as a data processor providing the detection and evidence service. Keeper details are not obtained by Vertex: where a contravention proceeds to a parking charge, DVLA keeper enquiries and any notices are handled by the operator's existing ticketing partner under their own registrations and obligations.
How long data is kept
Evidence (photographs and plate reads) is kept on a per-site retention schedule set by the site's controller, and is deleted automatically when that period ends. A minimal audit record of enforcement decisions (the written reason and rule settings, without imagery) is retained lawfully for accountability and appeal handling.
Sharing
Evidence packs for contraventions are shared with the site's parking operator and their ticketing and debt-recovery partner for the purpose of issuing and defending parking charges. Data is not sold and is not used for marketing.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or erasure of your personal data, object to processing, and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). If your query concerns a specific parking event or charge, the site's operator is the controller - contact details appear on site signage and on any notice you receive. For anything about the Vertex ANPR service itself, contact contact@vertexstudios.co.
ICO registration: registration details for this service are being finalised and will be published here before the service page goes live for enforcement enquiries.
